By Noel Kelsch, RDHAPA sweet woman came into my office the other day. She was being treated for a highly contagious disease with a surgical procedure. She shared that her 3-year-old granddaughter had the same disease. I explained to her that she could have spread this disease to her granddaughter. The disease was dental caries (cavities). Dental caries are a preventable disease that can be spread from person to person as they share items such as a spoon, as reported in the Journal of the California Dental Association.
